As someone who has spent years capturing moments through the lens, I’ve learned a thing or two about what makes a successful photo session. One of the biggest lessons? I can’t read your mind!
I’ve worked with countless businesses and families in the Port Huron and Blue Water area, as well as in St. Clair County and Metro Detroit. And time and time again, I find that communication is key. Whether it’s before, during, or after your session, speaking up about your preferences can make all the difference in creating a portrait that you’ll love.
Before the Session: Speak Up!
Let’s start with the lead-up to your photo session. When you come to me, it’s super important to share any little features about yourself that you’d like to tweak. I know we all have our insecurities—trust me, I’m right there with you! Maybe you’re not thrilled about a few gray hairs or a skin condition that you’re worried might ruin the shot.
Don’t hold back! If you’re looking for a business portrait that shows you at your best, let me know what that looks like for you. I can do tasteful retouching that keeps you looking like yourself—just a better version! I’ve had clients who were hesitant to get their photos taken because of past experiences. If that’s you, please share what didn’t work for you before. This way, we can avoid those pitfalls and focus on what you love.
During the Session: Keep the Conversation Going
Now, let’s talk about the day of the session. When we start, I usually take a few practice shots to get the lighting just right for your unique features. This is the perfect time to let me know if there’s anything on your mind. Do you have a “good side”? Is your hair misbehaving?
I want to hear it all! If something comes to mind during our time together, don’t hesitate to speak up. I once had a client who was self-conscious about a scar on their face. They mentioned it during the session, and I was able to reassure them that it was a quick fix in post-production. The same goes for any concerns about your smile or anything else that might be bothering you.
I also like to show you the raw photos as we go along, so you can see how things are shaping up. If you see something you love, let me know! If something isn’t quite right, tell me that too. We’re in this together, and I want to make sure you’re happy with the direction we’re heading.
After the Session: Don’t Be Shy!
Once we wrap up and I deliver your final photos, the communication doesn’t have to stop there. If you notice something you’d like tweaked after seeing the final images, please reach out! I had a client who wanted a little extra smoothing on their neck after seeing the photos. No problem at all! I went back in, made the adjustments, and sent them the updated images.
I totally get it—sometimes, we see things in photos that we didn’t notice in the moment. So, if there’s anything you want to change, just let me know. I’m here to make sure you’re thrilled with your portraits.
Final Thoughts
So, there you have it! Whether it’s before, during, or after your photo session, communication is crucial. I believe everyone is beautiful, but I also understand that we all have our personal preferences. So, don’t be shy—speak up! Let’s work together to create portraits that you’ll be proud to show off for years to come.
