If you've had a chance to check out my website or portfolio, or maybe we've chatted in person, you probably know that I primarily work with businesses. And let me tell you, that’s a choice I’ve made for some pretty good reasons. Sure, I still take family photo sessions and senior portraits upon request, but my heart really lies in the business world.
A Little Background
To give you some context, I used to focus on wedding photography, family shoots, and high school portraits. But when I moved to the Port Huron area about a decade ago, I decided to shift gears. I wanted to work with businesses that needed professional portraits, headshots, and event photography.
Reason #1: I Love Meeting New People
First off, I genuinely enjoy working with businesses. There’s something exciting about meeting new people who are passionate about what they do. I’ve always had an interest in business myself, which is part of why I run my own photography business. I find it fascinating to hear about their goals, workflows, and marketing strategies. It’s like a mini-business seminar every time I do a shoot!
Even during a photo session, I’m learning so much about these businesses and the people behind them. At the end of the day, I’m not just working with companies; I’m working with individuals who have stories to tell. I love discovering what they do and helping them craft their image to better connect with the community.
Reason #2: Seeing My Work in Action
The second reason I love working with businesses is how they use my photos. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the images I’ve taken being put to good use. For instance, I work with a local hospital, and one of my favorite things is spotting billboards featuring the doctors and nurses I’ve photographed. It’s a great way for the community to get to know their medical staff, and it feels amazing to know I played a part in that.
Another cool experience was when a business approached me for employee headshots to create name badges. I not only took the photos but also designed and printed the badges. Seeing those badges in action was just the cherry on top!
Family Photography by Request
Now, don’t get me wrong—I still love family photography and senior sessions. Most of the time, I get those requests from friends, family, or even businesses I’m working with. After all, businesses are made up of people, and those people have families! When they find out I also do family photos, it often leads to some exciting opportunities.
