If you've had a photo shoot with me, you probably already know this, but if you have one coming up, I wanted to give you a little heads up. When we work together, you might notice that I take a lot of photos during our session. And I mean a lot! If you're expecting a quick one-and-done headshot where you sit down, I snap a photo, and then we call it a day, well, that’s not really my style. I totally get that some photographers operate that way, but if you’re looking for someone who will take the time to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera and provide you with a variety of headshots to choose from, then you’re in the right place!

The Reason Behind the Clicks
So, why do I take so many photos? Well, it’s all about making sure you feel at ease and capturing the best version of you. I’ve had first-time clients come to me who were previously unhappy with their headshots because their last photographer only took one or two shots. They often pull up their old headshot and share their thoughts on why they don’t like it. Sometimes, I can see why they feel that way.
Everyone is beautiful, but you can definitely tell when a photographer has taken the time to properly light a scene or pose a person. I’ve seen clients with that “deer in headlights” look, and they’re specifically looking for someone who will take the time to work with them.
Getting Comfortable
When you come in for your session, I’ll start by letting you know that we’re going to take some practice warm-up shots. This is not just for you to get comfortable in front of the camera, but also for me to dial in my lighting and camera settings based on your skin tone, hair, and outfit colors.
If you wear glasses, I’ll be moving the light around to minimize glare. So, during this time, I’m taking a handful of practice shots, and I assure you there’s no pressure. Just relax! You don’t even have to smile or pose; I’m just getting everything set up while you get used to the camera and the light.
The Real Deal
Once we’re ready to start the “real” session, I still won’t just snap one or two photos and call it a day. We’ll take a variety of shots from different angles, and I’ll be coaching you along the way. It’s natural to feel a bit of pressure when the camera is focused on you, especially if you’re not used to it.
As we go through the session, I’ll be chatting with you to keep things relaxed. I also like to show you the photos we’re taking periodically. I believe everyone has their own personal preferences, and I want to get familiar with what you like. So, I’ll ask you what you think about certain shots, and I’ll make a note of the ones you love and the ones you don’t.
Collaboration is Key
After we’ve gone through some photos, we’ll continue taking more, focusing on what you like and avoiding what you don’t. If you want to change up your look with a different outfit or accessory, we can do that too!
Taking a lot of photos is crucial because it gives us a variety of looks and poses to choose from. Sometimes, I might capture a moment that’s just perfect, but maybe you were halfway blinking or turned your head a bit too much. Having a bunch of photos to work from allows me to create the best possible portrait for you.
The Positive Experience
What I’ve found is that as we move through the session, many clients end up surprised by how much they like the photos. It’s common for people to come in feeling nervous and saying they don’t usually like photos of themselves. But as we go along, they start to see images they actually enjoy, and that positive reinforcement can really boost their self-esteem.
I want everyone to recognize their beauty, and I strive to create a positive experience during our time together.
So, in a nutshell, that’s why I take so many photos. If you’re looking for a photographer who will collaborate with you, communicate openly, and take a healthy handful (or more!) of photos to ensure we get the best shot, then I’m your person.
